The card is activated on the first use, so there’s no need to worry about the card expiring before you arrive in Barcelona.
The Barcelona Card is simple to use, but knowing a few key details will help you get the most value from it.
Activation
Barcelona card is activated when you first use it, for example, on public transport or at the entrance of one of the participating attractions.
The Barcelona Card is available in 3, 4, or 5-day options, and it’s valid for consecutive days, not 24-hour periods. For example, if you activate a 5-day Barcelona Card on Monday at noon, it will expire on Friday at midnight.
Using public transport
Once activated, tap your Barcelona Card at any of these transport options:
- Metro (TMB)
- Tram (TMB)
- Day buses (TMB)
- FGC railway (urban lines)
- Renfe Rodalies trains (zone 1 only)
Note: The card is not valid for night buses.
Using at museums and attractions
Simply show or scan your Barcelona Card at the entrance to any included museum or attraction. You get one free entry per location during your card’s validity period.
For discounted attractions (like Casa Batlló or La Pedrera), present your card at the ticket desk to receive your discount.
Know before you go
- One entry per venue: You can visit each free museum or attraction once with your card.
- No stacking discounts: Discounts cannot be combined with other promotions or offers.
- Valid through current year: The card is valid until the end of the current calendar year.
- Must be activated: Free entries and discounts only work once the card is activated and within its validity period.
